Get to know your School Counselor: Hi there! I'm Ms. Barnhart, your new school counselor at Ellis. I just finished my Master's in School Counseling from Liberty University and have a bachelor’s in psychology and Sociology from Christopher Newport University. I have two adorable corgis, Finn and Buoy, and a small obsession for corgis. I've spent the last couple of years working as an in-home clinician, and I'm super passionate about helping kids. My goal? To make sure every student here has the support and resources they need to succeed. You'll see me working with students one-on-one, in small groups, and even teaching some fun classroom lessons. Let's make this year awesome together! Many Explorers, One Crew! With Gratitude, Ms. Barnhart |

What does a school Counselor do? School counselors develop a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses students’ social and emotional, academic, and career development needs. A multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) allows school counselors to provide services to all students in a variety of ways, which includes classroom instruction, small groups, short term individual counseling, and referrals for mental health resources in the community. |

Program Mission: At Ellis Elementary, we believe in utilizing the power of fostering relationships and connections with students. It serves as our driving factor of building a comprehensive school counseling program that is aligned with the American School Counselor Association’s (ASCA) mindsets and behaviors. Our comprehensive school counseling program allows school counselors to address our students’ unique social and emotional, academic, and career exploration needs. We believe all students have the right to achieve academic success through advocacy and collaboration with stakeholders. |
