School Name: Ellis Elementary was named after Suella Gilbert Ellis, the first African American administrator in Prince William County. The school opened in the fall of 2004 and grew in enrollment from 525 students to 750 by the end of the first school year. Boundary changes adjusted the enrollment for future years.
Communities Served: Sunny Gate Apartments, Ashton Glen, Mason's Keep, Barrington Apartments, the west side of TGM and Coverstone Apartments, Pope Street, Wallace Lane, Gibbon Place, Ramseur Place, and residents along Wellington Road down to Godwin.
Special Programs: Ellis Elementary is an accredited International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program School. For more information about our IB PYP program, visit our page on the IB website. The school also supports students through Special Education, English as a Second Language (ESOL), and Gifted Education. In addition, students are offered many before or after-school enrichment opportunities, such as various clubs.
Opportunities for Parent and Community Involvement: Parents are encouraged to participate in the school's day-to-day activities. They may tutor small groups or individuals, help in the classroom, or participate in the many family activities offered. Parents may also get involved and help make decisions through the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) as well as a School Advisory Council.
