A Message From

Mrs. LaShondra Rice

Dear Ellis Elementary School Families:
I am excited to serve our staff members, students, and their families as the new principal of Ellis Elementary School. I bring you greetings from Mississippi, the Magnolia State of southern hospitality and charm. It was in Columbus that I developed my passion for teaching, and I have truly been blessed to have taught for 20 years across the world. I have taught in Panama, Japan, England, and in several states across the country grades 2-6 in Title 1 elementary schools, IB PYP school, and with the Department of Defense Dependent Schools (DoDDs). These opportunities have given me a great appreciation for cultural and ethnic diversity. I then decided to continue my educational journey as an instructional leader in PWCS. For the past 5 years, I have been the administrative intern and assistant principal at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Mississippi University for Women. I signed up for military life after meeting my husband of 28 years at Columbus Air Force Base. While supporting my husband in the Air Force, I earned my master’s degree in business administration and my educational specialist degree in administration & supervision PreK-12 from Cambridge College.
While stationed in England, I taught early childhood education for Central Texas University while serving as the UK assistant site director for University of Oklahoma. Because of my extensive background in education, I have had many successes in increasing student achievement and building relationships in schools and communities.
In addition to my professional accomplishments, my greatest accomplishment is my family. I enjoy spending time with my husband and best friend, Edwin, and my two children Njiba and Uzziel. Oh, I forgot the cat. Sir Chester took the tumultuous flight from England to join us here in Virginia. Needless to say, he was very upset with us for having to make the flight solo! I enjoy ballroom dancing, and I am an amateur competitor. My husband and I are the marriage ministry leaders at MOVE Church in Lake Ridge, and I enjoy singing. I am blessed to have such an amazing support system that will continue to advise me as I begin the work to move Ellis forward and put us on the map as a leading IB School in PWCS.
I am determined to provide strong leadership and direction while working collaboratively to achieve academic, emotional, and social excellence for not only our school, but our community. I look forward to meeting each of you soon.
Sincerely,
LaShondra Rice, Ed.S.
