K-5 School Counseling lesson for the week of May 11: Resilience 

What is Resilience?

Imagine you have each end of a piece of elastic in your hands.


Pull your hands apart and the elastic stretches. 

Let go of one end and the elastic bounces back to its original size.

For people resilience means that whatever bad times you go through you can bounce back again and be yourself.

 Now let's learn  about resilience!

Take some time to think about the video! What steps are you already doing? Which steps do you need to work on? How  can you incorporate all of those 6 steps into your daily routine?

You can BOUNCE BACK from something difficult or hard if you remember: 

– Bad times don’t last, and things get better.

– Other people can only help if you share with them.

– Unhelpful thinking only makes you feel worse.

– Nobody is perfect – not you, not your friends, not your family, not anybody!

– Concentrate on the good things in life, no matter how small.

– Everybody suffers, everybody feels pain and experiences setbacks; they are a normal part of life.

– Blame fairly – negative events are often a combination of things.

– Accept what you can’t ch

ange and try to change what you can.

– Catastrophizing makes things worse – don’t fall prey to believing in the worst interpretation.

 K – Keep things in perspective. Even the worst moment is but one moment in life.
